AI Technology and its application in the domain of peace, justice and security
AI can help to solve todays challenges in the domains of peace, justice and security in many different ways. Advanced models can be created to analyse vital infrastructures in developing regions in order to improve the primary necessities of life which in turn contributes to peace. In the administration of justice, AI applications already improve the quality of and the access to justice. For example, virtual assistants at courts can help answer common questions in multiple languages making access to basic legal information accessible to many people. AI can also improve security not only online with real-time AI-powered threat-analysis, but also offline. Examples of this are applications of crime analytics which can help to predict crimes so that law enforcement can use its resources in those areas where it is most needed. However, as with all applications of technology, AI in the domain of peace, justice and security must be developed and used in a responsible way. Only then AI can truly contribute to solving todays challenges. What are the most promising AI applications that can solve the challenges in the domains of peace, justice and security? How can we make sure that AI-systems in the realm of justice and security do not reinforce or even increase societal biases? How can judicial and law enforcement authorities remain conscious of the way AI-systems function and should they always remain in control? Who should provide the input (data, visual images, recordings) to AI-systems in the administration of justice? How do we facilitate the sharing of best practices? And what (technical) solutions are available and needed to ensure the responsible use of AI in the security and justice field?
